What You Need to Realize About Personal Growth & The Law of Attraction

Do you think that personal growth is all about reaching a land of rainbows and butterflies 24/7?

Think again.

Here is What You Need to Know About Personal Growth

When I first got into self-development, I was all (and still am) about practicing The Law of Attraction

This being said, looking back at my older posts I see the growth I have made and the depths I now dive that are at new levels.

I used to think that if I just thought positively, everything would be perfectly great!

Laa-dee-dah, Fa-la-la-la-la….

Oh, but I was just a young grasshopper and the things I have come to learn in time…

The Law of Attraction (LOA) is Totally Awesome, But Don’t Forget the Other Half of the Story…

I think that the Law of Attraction is amazing and has really worked for me in my life on many levels.

I also think that, YES, practicing the law of attraction for manifestation is an integral key to creating the reality you want. I use a lot of the techniques and practices within my own work.

HOWEVER-

Let’s be okay with the fact that there are going to be times when it is okay to not be in LOA Mode.

As important as it is to practice positive thinking, it is equally important to honor any unpleasant emotions that come up in this experience called life.

We are all human and apart of the human experience is to experience pain, anger, grief, happiness, joy- all of the spectrums.

Taking time to honor, feel, and then process emotions properly is a positive part of human experience, and necessary to for true individual self-actualization and growth.

And I mean understanding and knowing how to actually deal with and process them, instead of slapping a new positive affirmation on top of it like I see many people doing…

“But I’d Rather Live in Fantasy Land,” They Say…

Well then fine, please do. You Do You.

If you would rather just focus on positive affirmations and turn a blind eye to your self-deprecating tendencies then fine.

Maybe you find that the LOA Lifestyle really is exactly what works for you right now and all you are needing, and that is absolutely awesome- I was there too.

But really, if you take an honest inventory of where you are at…you might recognize that there is some truth to what I am saying here.

And if you are wondering why your “I love myself” and “I am enough” affirmations that you practice religiously still have you questioning your ability to totally and completely accept yourself in every way than I invite you to understand the following:

As a human, especially one on the path of conscious evolution, dealing with “unpleasant” emotions is inevitable and, in fact- a necessary.

As you grow and become more expansive,

you need to realize that you will come up against new walls.

These walls of resistance are similar to new teachings and lessons – one might even call them gifts.

The discomfort of the resistance will help to shape you and strengthen you- giving you more insights and wisdom that takes you into deeper layers of yourself.

They can also be uncomfortable and make you feel like you have taken two steps forward and one step back-

Maybe even three steps back!

But with this, new progress is typically made and I personally notice that I take huge leaps forward.

The other day my Heilkunster (Just think of her as my Naturalpathic Dr and Coach) sent me this quote by Marianne Willaimson who is an author and spiritual teacher.

” We must face our own ugliness.  We often must become painfully aware of the unworkability of a pattern before we’re willing to give it up.  It often seems, in fact, that our lives get worse rather than better when we begin to work deeply on ourselves.  Life doesn’t actually get worse; it’s just that we feel our own transgressions more because we’re no longer anesthetized by unconsciousness.  We’re no longer distanced, through denial or dissociation, from our own experience.  We’re starting to see the truth about the games we play.
The process can be so painful that we are tempted to go backwards.  It takes courage – this is often called the path of the spiritual warrior – to endure the sharp pains of self-discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that would last the rest of our lives.”

It’s Okay to Not Always be Okay, OK?!

In closing, what you need to know about growth and self-development is that there are times that leave you in HOT MESS CITY.

There will be points that make you feel uncomfortable and in question.

This is totally normal, just keep forging forward.

I know that there are people who think that in order to have life be okay, they need to hold everything in and together. This includes religiously practicing the Law of Attraction and repeating mantras over and over to themselves until they believe in the fantasy of their amazing life despite their obvious binge drinking and financial problems- just saying…

Around them, I am not allowed to speak the truth- that something seems “amiss”…

Apparently, if they think anything but positively it will ruin their life and possibility of success.

Guess what I think about that? I think it’s BULLSHIT.

In Closing

So yes, keep up those happy thoughts. Live in a space of gratitude! We really do have so much to be grateful for- but don’t forget to understand and honor the other parts of a normal human experience which is sometimes grief, sadness, anger, frustration and any other “unpleasant” emotions that could possibly need to be released from within you for you to move forward.

  1. YES, YES, YES!! A big part of it for me, is letting go of the need to make my “unpleasant” emotions okay for everyone else. In the moments I have been able to do that, I have felt very liberated!
